Welcome to the ANS-8 Website

American National Standards, commonly called ANSI standards, are developed in a carefully prescribed process as set forth in procedures of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Standards Committee. The work of the ANS Standards Committee is managed by several consensus committees, one of which is N16, Nuclear Criticality Safety. This committee comprises a balanced representation from various areas of interest, including users, and manages standards developed by Subcommittee 8, Fissionable Materials Outside Reactors.

More than 800 volunteers participate in the standards program sponsored by the American Nuclear Society. Westinghouse Safety Management Solutions, Inc., recognizes the need for these standards and their use in the nuclear industry. We proudly sponsor, support, and encourage our employees to participate in this program.

We offer the ANS-8 web site as an opportunity for the criticality safety community to obtain current information regarding the ANS-8 nuclear criticality safety standards. We likewise encourage other nuclear criticality safety specialists to participate in this worthwhile effort.
