Who We AreAmerican National Standards are developed in a carefully prescribed process as set forth in procedures of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Standards Committee. The work of the ANS Standards Committee is managed by several consensus committees, one of which is N16, Nuclear Criticality Safety. This committee comprises a balance of representation from among various areas of interest, including users, and manages standards developed by Subcommittee 8, Fissionable Materials Outside Reactors. ANS-8 has worked for the past several decades to prepare and promote standards on nuclear criticality safety for the handling, processing, storing, and transportation of fissionable materials outside reactors.
