Experience

DOE Experience:  WSMS has extensive experience providing daily safety, emergency management, security, hazards and regulatory analysis, and operations support to over 70 nuclear and non-nuclear facilities at 20 DOE sites.  We have supported the successful startup of 17 facilities and helped develop and implement Integrated Safety Management programs at 15 of our clients’ sites.  We operate facilities such as the Y-12 Waste Tank Operations (WTO) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Plutonium Finishing Plant (PFP) in Hanford, Washington.

Department of Defense (DoD):  WSMS’ DoD experience encompasses providing risk assessment, security, safety and startup testing support services to the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).  For DTRA’s Advanced Systems and Concepts Office (ASCO) and Cooperative Threat Reduction Center (CTRC), we’ve performed tasks analyzing chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high explosive (CBRNE) threats to potential civilian and military targets, including measures to improve security.  We have worked with military, civilian employees and contractors to implement best industry work safety and workman’s compensation programs at 24 military bases.

Commercial Nuclear:  WSMS has over 100 personnel with experience working at 38 nuclear power plants across the United States.  We perform security evaluations in accordance with the NRC’s DBT order (April 2003) at several nuclear power facilities, including those for Excelon and Detroit Edison.  WSMS also supports the Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) in evaluating state and local emergency response organizations in technical and non-technical areas during 26 Nuclear Power Plant exercises. 

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA):  In 2001, WSMS was called upon to startup test and commission NASA’s Delta IV program space launch complex facilities at Cape Canaveral Air Station in Florida and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.  Since then, we have provided other engineering services, including performing a study to repair the space launch structural components at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
